I had a best friend who’s mother made satin horse jockey outfits. She never used a pattern. The “feel” of it, she’d tell me, did everything. She taught me how to sew. My friend and I would make doll clothes during sleepovers and eventually started making clothes for ourselves.

I studied Middle Age through the Renaissance costuming and eventually was making them for stage and screen. By the time I was 28, I would go through what I called disposal sewing machines. I’d buy those $100 singers and use them so much that the timing or motor would break down. Then I’d throw it away and go buy another. Finally I bought myself a Bernina and an industrial for leather and heavy upholstery. These have been in service now for 7 years and haven’t broken yet.

I was making Medieval Barbie costumes and listing them on eBay when I received an email from a lady asking me where I got my patterns. We became friends via email. She talked me into getting a good digital camera so people could actually see my creations. Then started doing my html listings and taught me how to do them. She’s my best friend and I’ve never met her in person. She does fantastic ooak dolls and through a little persuasion we did our first combined doll and dragon. Now we’re dragon_legends.

I really have a lot of fun making clothes for Tyler as well as the other dolls. Detailing is one of my favorites and I love to hear opinions about anything I make. I have to make myself get to bed in the wee hours of the morning and quit sewing on something I really want to finish so I can get up and get my kids to school on time. I want to thank everyone that has helped me in making an enjoyable living by his or her purchases on the Internet. I really enjoy making something for someone who had a vision and wanted to see it come to life. And the thrill in their email when they write to thank me is definitely worth every minute I put into it. It amazes me how with only the aid of the Internet, people have a chance to meet others with the same interest and become such wonderful friends.

I was raised in Las Vegas where my mother taught me to sew. I spent summers either in KS or in OR with my grandparents. My grandmother taught me how to knit and crochet and play piano – my grandfather taught me how to ride a horse and round up cattle, my other grandparents taught me that running a farm was WORK and although there was no-one 'watching over you' if you didn't do it, it didn't get done.

In my life I've been a manicurist, a hairdresser, a secretary, purchasing agent, engineer, den mother, accountant, girl scout leader, graphics designer, web-designer, book editor, and mother of an autistic child. Yes, my resume really does look JUST that odd! LOL

The progress to OOAK designer is simple. My mom made dresses for my barbies. I've been making dresses for my daughter's barbies since she got her first one. I was searching the web for Barbie dress patterns when I stumbled across a “how to” page on creating OOAK's. I read through it and decided I could do this!

One day while browsing the OOAK dolls on e-bay I saw an absolutely gorgeous medieval gown and just HAD to write to the seller! - That seller was Sarena and we've been writing back and forth since. I'm her biggest fan! :-D - She makes the most INCREDIBLE things and does it seemingly without effort. Having attempted at least the doll gowns on my own I know exactly what it takes and am continually amazed!

I started working with steel several years ago. In the beginning I only worked in 'full' size blades, but pretty soon my wife asked me for a 1:6 spear for a barbie she was turning into a valkyrie. Ok, I can do this, triangle of steel, sharpened on two sides - not a problem. Then she asked for a sword.....
Since that time I've re-produced a large number of and many different types of weapons into 1:6 or 1:4 scale - knives, swords, crossbows, sai's...... Each new blade is a challenge, and this is a good thing.

Along about the time of that first spear, the wife decided that plastic stands 'weren't good enough'. So..... I started making wooden stradle stands as well - each one measured to the specific doll so it's always an excellent fit.
