Dernhelm

This is the Dernhelm outfit - worn by Eowyn to enable her to sneak onto the battlefield during Return of the King .

Follow me into her tent here and we'll start from the beginning!

Looks like we've caught her just pulling on her boots - she's wearing a green knit knee length tunic split front and back for riding and dark brown 'faux' suede pants. Her boots are dark brown leather with leather soles and heels and constructed with inner heels so she's not 'on tiptoe'. - She does stand by herself while wearing her boots, all of the pictures here were taken without a stand.

Next the chainmail hauberk - yes, that's real chainmail! - stainless steel rings in a European 4-in-1 pattern - knee length with 3/4 sleeves and split front and back for riding.

Brown leather tromp l'oile gloves first - then the vambraces - tooled, dyed, banded leather, they lace up the inner arm.

Now the leather armor! - intricately tooled, multiply dyed, banded and stitched. Multiple layers of leather inset with brass, laced up the front and with Velcro(c) on the sides to make it easier for her to get into.

And her sword harness! - tooled and dyed leather over suede, multiply linked. The scabbard is molded and dyed leather with brass accents.
Her sword is hand ground and polished carbon steel with a brass and wood handle, clay guard and brass pommel. - this is NOT A TOY - it IS sharp - has to be to get through that war elephant hide! (We will dull it for you on request, but it STILL will not qualify in any way as a 'toy'.)

Now her cape - beaten and distressed dark green wool with a toggle clasp.

Last but certainly not least - her Helmet! - Solid brass - braised and riveted - inlaid with more brass - fully lined in leather to avoid staining or scratching the doll - the brass has been treated to achieve the antiqued look. It as a sculpted horse head over the nosepiece and a chain mail neck guard.

The doll herself - originally a Tonner Velma on a new BW body, has received a full re-root in four shades of blonde with a rooted center part. Her hair has been boil permed to keep and hold its waves. Eowyn has received a full make-over with artist quality acrylic paints and sealers and her right hand has been molded so she can hold her sword.

Her horse! - Originally a shaggy 1:4 scale chestnut from Firebird Arts, her horse has been dyed and fully re-rooted into a glossy bay. She's been given a bitted leather bridle with her reins in a 5-strand braid. Her saddle and saddle blanket are also trimmed in leather braid - Her brown leather saddle has wooden cantles decorated in a Celtic motif.

Every effort has been made to make sure the recreation matches the original - everything is as close as humanly possible.
